Seven habits of effective text editing

http://moolenaar.net/habits.html

If you program, you should learn a text editor that lets you move the cursor with just the keyboard. Seriously, it's so much faster. There's nothing worse than sitting there over someone's shoulder while they take forever to make changes to the code like a gd n00b.

Games Look Bad, Part 1: HDR and Tone Mapping

https://ventspace.wordpress.com/2017/10/20/games-look-bad-part-1-hdr-and-tone-mapping/

This is an interesting discussion of videogame graphics with a background from film studies. I never really considered film to be something so important for videogames, but now I'm a bit curious. Film studies is on my todo list now.

The Linux Scheduler: a Decade of Wasted Cores

https://blog.acolyer.org/2016/04/26/the-linux-scheduler-a-decade-of-wasted-cores/

How I Socially Engineer Myself Into High Security Facilities

https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/qv34zb/how-i-socially-engineer-myself-into-high-security-facilities

I Went Camping in the Trunk of a $145,000 Tesla

https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-tesla-camper-mode/

I think I would cringe if I bought a new tesla and then ruined it by sleeping inside, but it's definitely a cool idea that I'd do after the tesla was not new. And now that they're coming out with the tractor trailer tesla, I think it would be cool to buy one and overhaul the interior of the tractor trailer into an apartment. That's a pie in the sky thing for when I'm a billionaire though.

More than 75 percent decline over 27 years in total flying insect biomass in protected areas

http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0185809

Bugs are gross and they suck, but less biodiversity makes me concerned that we are losing stuff that we can't get back. Especially the ocean. People used to say that birds would block out the sun and fish would be so plentiful they jumped right into boats. I suspect that any random area of ocean today is barren compared to even 100 years ago.

GHOST IN THE CELL

https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/10/16447264/prison-hacker-recycled-computer-fraud-ohio-marion-transkiy

It's really clear how prison is the perfect environment for inmates to learn skills and concoct elaborate plans while the guards are just normal people with lives and shit and can't keep up. Real good system.

Understanding the Emotional Response

Ok here's this other thing to read while you contemplate why Anthony Bourdain is dead. Also, Anthony Bourdain is dead, did you hear about that? He's dead. Isn't that weird?
