Day 159: Watermelon Down
by Cory on September 26, 2018 12:50 PM
My watermelon broke off the vine yesterday!
It's slightly smaller than a softball, but also lopsided. I'm not too broken up about it though because it didn't seem like it was going to grow big or finish in time. The internet says you can't ripen watermelon off the vine, so this is what I'm stuck with. I need to figure out when I want to cut it open. It's a little heavier than before, but probably not done. I doubt it will be edible.
I think it was windy, but I also didn't really leave that much slack on the vine for this watermelon. The vine it was on was really thin and short. I guess that's something to account for next time.
In more positive news, my garden gem plant has a second wave of full sized fruit and I'm seeing like 4 or 5 fruits starting to break. And more excitingly, my garden treasures are starting to turn!
I'm proud of these because they're the only big, fullsize fruit I have. I hope they're really tasty. On the bright side, I don't have to worry about how I'm going to harvest them without disturbing the watermelon.
